London for Lovers: Secret Valentine’s

Over on the Vintage Books blog we share our favourite romantic London spots for you this Valentines Day.

Tacky, exploitative, overpriced, and even terrifying are words we might associate with Valentine’s Day in London. Most of us have forgotten to book anything in advance, and wind up staying in with a box set and M&S meal deal (which can be pretty romantic too).  But romance in London on Valentine’s Day is possible, and doesn’t need to be planned months before, or break the bank. Here are a few suggestions to get off the beaten track…

Flip it.

Rather than the ubiquitous set menu dinner, why not eat like kings (and queens), and sneak in a clandestine breakfast date before the working day begins? Our favourite spots are: Riding House Café (especially its chorizo hash browns) on Great Titchfield Street, Modern Pantry in Clerkenwell for brilliantly British brunch, and Hawksmoor four locations across the capital, for meat lovers.
